Yep, that’s how I spent most of my Christmas & New Year break…without a computer, laptop, iPad, phone, Facebook or e-mails. Instead it was time to play Dad & Husband again in our little corner of heaven that is the North Devon coast. Littleham (nr. Bideford) at Robin Hill Farm to be precise (take a look, it really is the perfect family accommodation).
We walked, we cycled, we laughed and we drew long deep breaths of wonderfully crisp fresh air. OK, I also got completely humiliated at table tennis several times, thanks to my 11 year old son Seb! We were out every day, visiting various gems such as Bideford, Instow (Herbie’s favourite beach), Appledore, Fremmington, Croyde and Woolacombe. All this whilst the weather played ball…and then some, upholding my philosophy of ‘if you don’t worry about what the weather might or might not do you may just be in for a pleasant surprise’. The only drawback was that my Mum was unable to join us as planned owing to ill health (but she’s on the mend now, thankfully).
This was a much needed complete break. I finished 2014 with a huge smile on my face, having smashed many of my targets. However I was left completely drained and with concerns about my Mum and some members of my wider family. But whilst those concerns haven’t completely gone away, I return feeling refreshed and ready to embrace what is already looking to be a fantastic 2015. A photographic extravaganza to Venice in a couple of weeks, an almost full wedding diary that will take me far and wide and plenty of family lifestyle shoots already scheduled in. Plus a few other new and exciting projects along the way (watch this space!).
Either way, there will be plenty of stories and memories to capture for new and familiar faces alike. But one thing I am also determined to do in 2015 is to spend more time creating and capturing my own family memories. A better work-life balance is needed (which is strange as I don’t really regard my job as work..but you get what I mean!). Our week in Devon was the perfect start.
Oh and I mentioned that I was unplugged and off-line, BUT I wasn’t without my camera…naturally. Here’s some of my favourites. Happy New Year one and all.
